Purdue - Printer Setup

Android

Click on this link to download, install, and open the Mobility Print client.

Troubleshooting

If you’ve used the “Download / Install” button on the actual Purdue Printing page, delete the app and try again.

The “Download / Install” button is actually a “deep link”, which means that it encodes information about the printer server inside the link itself to pass onto the Mobility Print client app. For whatever reason, Purdue set this link to an mDNS address.

Unfortunately, support for mDNS links on Android is quite new, as Google is rolling it out with a Play Services update. Some devices don’t support it properly, some have intermittent connection problems, etc.

The solution is to actually use the proper domain and subdomain to connect to the printer server, which is reliable and doesn’t depend on the mDNS broadcast within a network. The infuriating part is that Purdue already has this set up, but the page makes no mention of it. This page has that link already formatted, so you just have to click on it.

Finally, if you are using Firefox, try using a different browser. Firefox on Android breaks deep links.
